Share Your Travel Story
Along with traveling, do you have a knack for storytelling?
A place that stayed with you long after you left?
The Vagabond Gazette is looking for travelers to share their stories, one place at a time.
I started this website because I wanted a space for travel writing that felt personal, honest, and a little less polished around the edges. A place where you don't need a journalism degree, a publishing history, or a portfolio to have something worth saying. You just need a story to tell.
I'm interested in the places you've experienced firsthand and the stories that came out of being there. Not another list of things to do or a carefully mapped-out itinerary, but a narrative that brings a place to life through your own eyes. It could be a small town you stumbled upon, a city you got lost in, a stretch of countryside you cycled through, or somewhere you stayed long enough to see beyond the surface.
You don't have to be a professional writer. You just have to be a traveler with something to share.
The Vagabond Gazette is an independent travel magazine built around alternative ways of seeing and experiencing the world. By contributing, you'll become part of a growing collection of stories written by travelers, for travelers—a reminder that there's more than one way to experience a place, and more than one story to tell about it.
What I'm looking for
I'm looking for narrative articles about a single destination you've personally visited. Each article should center on one place and tell a story about your experience there.
Think personal observations, unexpected discoveries, encounters with locals, the everyday details that make a place what it is, or moments that changed how you saw somewhere. Let the story unfold naturally. There's no need to turn it into a travel guide or squeeze in every attraction worth visiting.
Your writing can be reflective, funny, curious, unconventional, or a little messy around the edges. What matters most is that it feels like a real person telling a real story.
Article requirements
-
One place at a time. Your article should focus on a single town, city, village, region, or other clearly defined destination.
-
First-person narrative. Write in English from your own perspective, drawing on your personal experiences and observations.
-
600–1,500 words. Long enough to tell a story, short enough to keep it moving.
-
Your own photographs. Include at least three relevant photos that complement the story and help bring the place to life.
-
Recent experiences preferred. Articles should be based on a current or relatively recent visit, so the details and experiences remain relevant.
-
Your own words. I'm interested in your voice, your perspective, and your way of telling a story.
What I'm not looking for
Please don't submit generic destination overviews, listicles, or SEO-driven articles. I want to know what it was actually like to be there, through your eyes.
Before you submit
Your article may not be published if:
-
It contains plagiarism or AI-generated writing.
-
The photographs aren't your own, are poor quality, or don't relate to the story.
-
The writing is difficult to follow or contains persistent grammatical errors that interfere with readability.
-
It doesn't meet the requirements above or isn't a good fit for the magazine.
You don't need perfect prose, and a few grammatical imperfections aren't the end of the world. Your individual voice is part of what makes your story worth reading. I may suggest minor edits for clarity, grammar, or consistency before publication.
Once you submit your article using the form below, I'll review it. If it looks like a good fit, you'll receive an email with instructions for sending your photographs and any remaining details. Once everything is approved, your story will be published on The Vagabond Gazette.
Let readers support your writing

Have a story to tell? I'd love to read it.
You don't need to have traveled far, visited somewhere exotic, or done anything extraordinary. Sometimes the best stories come from the places we least expect. If you've been somewhere and have a story that deserves to be told, share it below.
